As it seems, Jonah is more than a close relative these days. As I read and read about him and prophecy correlation of Jesus etc. I couldn't see where and why I needed to keep going over and over a story we ALL could recite. Until this part. For the Lord said,"you did not make this vine. You did not grow it or tend to it and yet it grew and died over night."Jonah 4:10.
It amazes me how much "concern" I have put into things that did not Concern me. So much so it brought irritation and anger. Basic Obedience principle that has a cause and effect if we do not heed in the get go.
Not all of us gets eaten by a fish, some just eatin by life. We sit back feeling we have arrived at the "order" God had given us and we wait to see all the sinners demise, while the entire time we are sitting in sin as form of judgement, disobedience, anger, blah blah blah.
At the first few readings I thought, Jonah, you Brat. Who do you think you are? Look how God still continued to allow you to serve Him and your a pain in the butt!
I no longer question Why the Lord continues to keep my attention by studying Jonah. I am intrigued at him. I want to know why (Matt 12:39-40)Jesus validated Jonahs very questionable existence-fulfilling prophecy-absolute. Jonah was in ministry- then why did he respond the way he did to being sent to Nineveh? Who did he think he was anyway and why? Jonah is a modern day depiction of religion to me. He is so Church. He has his own agenda and his own doctrine. He walks the walk and talks the talk until he is singled out to do personal business for the Lord and without witnesses- you see he likes an audience. He has already judged and he already knows more than God, he thinks he is too good to waste his time on a city whom seems to be so saturated with sin in his eyes, yet he fails to see his own. (Jonah 4:9-10) As he questions God as to why he even cares about these people. Can you imagine? Isn't he typical? Isn't it funny the Lords response is Love, of all things 120,000 people whom do not know their left from their right and He tells Jonah basically REALLY? They Need me. We all need HIM, no matter how screwed up we get and are- GOD CARES & LOVES US! So I will journey on with my very own Jonah project, lets see what we can learn along the way.
